£40.00 per 20kg Tub +VAT (£48.00 including VAT)
- Preparation: Make sure all joints are cleaned out to a minimum depth of 25mm (minimum joint width of 3mm) and clear of any dirt.
- Pre-wet area prior to spreading JOINT-IT
- Pour Out: Open the lid of the container and pour JOINT-IT immediately onto area.
- Work In: Using a squeegee or street broom, spread it evenly. Work in so that it goes deep into the joints and is compacted.
- Add more water: Add more water sparingly to help JOINT-IT flow into joints of the paving, working diagonally across the joints to ensure JOINT-IT has penetrated all joints of the paving.
- Final Cleaning: Clean the surface carefully with a fine hair broom so that all JOINT-IT residue is removed. Always sweep diagonally across joint.
Take care not to brush the product out of joints or into nearby drains. JOINT-IT will start to harden in joints within 90 minutes at over 20 C degrees. In lower temperatures JOINT-IT will take longer to harden. Once bag is opened, contents must be used within 4 hours.
Approximate coverage using 4 size random paving per 20Kg tub is 12.5 sq m, depending on joint width and depth.
Please note – When ordering 1 to 6 tubs, there will be a £17.50 plus vat delivery surcharge automatically added. Orders of 7 tubs or more does not incur the surcharge.
Usage & Care
Step-by-Step Application Guide
Soak the Surface with Clean Water
- Water prevents the resin binding agent from settling unevenly on the surface, avoiding colour enhancement or framing around the edges of flags/slabs/paving. It ensures a consistent, even distribution of the resin.
- Keep the surface thoroughly soaked before and during the application process to prevent the resin from sticking. Do not allow the paving to dry as you work with the product. If you’re unsure, it’s better to add more water. Refer to the side of the Joint-It Simple bucket for instructions on which flags/slabs/paving must be pre-sealed prior to application, to reduce the risk of a temporary colour enhancement.
Open Bag & Apply Joint-It Simple
- The Joint-It Simple product is vacuum packed tightly inside the bag. Open the bag and tip the product out onto your wet paving. Soak the product with clean water. Use a hard bristle brush to work the product into the joints diagonally. Keep the flags/slabs/paving saturated with water throughout this process. Do not allow the flags/slabs/paving to dry as you work. Keep re-wetting the flags/slabs/paving as you work with the product.
- Keep the area in front of and behind the broom constantly wet with clean water to help the product work into the joints.
Filling Joints & Finishing
- Joint-It Simple will begin to settle into the joints as you add water. If the joints look partially filled, apply more product and continue sweeping and watering to ensure they are fully filled.
- When the joints are full of product, thoroughly wet the flags/slabs/paving again with water. Wait between 15 – 20 minutes to allow the product to fully settle. Using a soft bristle brush, sweep over the paved area and top up joints with product until all of the joints are completely full.
- Use a finishing tool to compact the product into the joints, followed by a soft brush to clean off any excess product. Using a finishing tool is not necessary but does give the product more strength in the joints when compacted.
GUIDELINES FOR USE
IMPORTANT USAGE INFORMATION
- Always test in a small discreet area first.
- The single most important thing to remember when using Joint-It Simple is that you must keep the flags/slabs/paving soaked with clean water before and during application of the product.
- A two-person application is recommended, but not necessary. If you are working by yourself, work on small areas and keep wetting the flags/slabs/paving as you joint your paved area. Ideally, ask someone else to keep wetting the flags/slabs/paving for you as you work.
- Do not use on joints narrower than 3mm wide.
- It’s essential to ensure there is no movement on the flags/slabs/paving prior to application of Joint-It Simple. All flags/slabs/paving must be fully secure with absolutely no movement in them before applying the product. Joint-It Simple will not fix moving flags/slabs/paving. The product is for aesthetic, drainage and weed-resistance purposes only.
- Joint-It Simple must be used on a permeable base. This is to allow water to drain through instead of logging on the top of your flags/slabs/paving. We recommend a 6:1 sand and cement base. If you are using a slurry primer, we recommend keeping it in 25mm from the edge of each flag/slab/paving all the way around. This is to prevent the slurry primer going into the joint, making it non-permeable and unsuitable for Joint-It Simple.
- Joint-It recommends sweeping the Joint-It Simple product diagonally across the joints, to prevent the product from being removed from the joints.
- We strongly recommend Limestone and any Flamed/Honed or Black Granite are pre-sealed prior to application of Joint-It Simple. Flamed, honed or Egyptian stone must be sealed both sides prior to applying Joint-It Simple or any other jointing material.
- Before working with the product, put on the recommended PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Use safety eye protection glasses/goggles and protective gloves. Always observe valid and current legal regulations on safety and health protection in your locality.
- Always adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions. Since Joint-It cannot foresee every possible application or material the product may be used with, it is the user’s responsibility to ensure the product’s suitability for their specific use. If you are unsure, it’s always good practice to try any product you’re using in a very small, discreet area first to make sure you’re happy before you continue.
- If there is additional work being conducted around the patio area (e.g. flower beds being dug, mulching, brickwork, rendering, etc.), it is good practice to complete that work before application of Joint-It Simple.
AFTER APPLYING JOINT-IT SIMPLE
- The jointing should not be cleaned by use of high-pressure washers until cured for at least 30 days after application.
BASE
- Successful installation of Joint-It Simple requires large amounts of clean water and a free-draining permeable base set on a 6:1 sand and cement mix. Failure to meet these conditions may compromise the quality and performance of the application.
- If you are using a slurry primer, we recommend keeping it in 25mm from the edge of each flag/slab/paving all the way around. This is to prevent the slurry primer going into the joint, making it non-permeable and unsuitable for Joint-It Simple.
JOINTS REQUIRED
- Recommended for joints a minimum of 3mm wide and 25mm deep.
- Joint-It Simple is not suitable for V joints.
- There is no restriction on the maximum size of the joints but take note that larger joints will reduce coverage per bucket of product.
COVERAGE
- Coverage will vary depending on the joint size, flag/slab/paving size, surface and application. Generally, one 20kg bucket of Joint-It Simple will cover approximately 10 – 15 sq. metres on a mixed patio pack (900mm x 600mm, 600mm x 600mm, 600mm x 300m, 300mm x 300mm). Please refer to the Joint-It product calculatorfor an estimation of how much product you will require.
WEATHER
- If the temperature is forecast to drop near freezing or below freezing within 12 hours of application, Joint-It Simple should not be used, because the water will freeze as it hits the ground, making it too difficult to sweep the product into the joints.
- Dry and hot conditions may increase the likelihood of resins from the sand depositing on the surface of the paving. This can lead to some colour enhancement or framing along the surface edges of the flags or stones. If this does happen, the enhancement will fade organically after a few weeks. If the temperature is above 25º, we recommend that you wait until it is cooler in the evening or early morning before applying Joint-It Simple, because water will evaporate too quickly to allow you to brush the product into the joints. In dry or very hot conditions, ensure that the surface remains saturated and work in small areas at a time.
- Product application can be done successfully in light rain. However, in heavy rain, it may be necessary to cover the installation to prevent the product from washing out of the joints within the first few hours after application, before it has had time to cure.
- Joint-It Simple can be applied in most weather conditions. Since it is applied wet, Joint-It recommends that application temperatures remain above 5°. Freezing temperatures during installation will likely cause ice to form which will inhibit the proper settlement of product into the joints.
- Freezing temperatures through the curing process will not affect the integrity of the final application. It will, however, drastically increase the curing time since all reactions will essentially stop until the ice can thaw and migrate away from the Joint-It Simple product, which in turn allows the resin coating to react with the air.
- If temperatures are at risk of dropping below freezing during installation, a dry installation can be used. This method increases the likelihood of colour enhancement substantially or resin deposits on the surface of the flags/slabs/paving. This may be minimised by pre-sealing the individual flags/slabs/paving, regardless of type, both on top, and each side. Pre-sealing is recommended if you are using any pre-mixed brush-in jointing compound, not just Joint-It Simple.
STORAGE
- Any unused Joint-It Simple should be put into the cleaned empty bucket (first having removed the plastic bag and cardboard from the bottom of the bucket). Fill the bucket with clean water to the very top, ensuring that the product inside is submerged under at least 5cm of clean water. With the lid closed tightly, the left-over product should keep for up to 4 weeks.
- Unopened, Joint-It Simple should keep for a minimum of 12 months when stored in a cool dry place. It is important to make sure that the bucket is protected from any punctures or piercing as contact with air will start to harden the product.
MAINTENANCE
- While the Joint-It Simple product is low maintenance, all outdoor surfaces require some maintenance when exposed to changing weather conditions and foot/vehicle traffic, particularly in shaded areas or after the winter. Regardless of the jointing material or paving type, we recommend a quick application of Joint-It So Clean or Joint-It Algae Remover every three to four months to keep your patio looking new and refreshed all year round.
- Dog and cat urine have an acidic pH that can cause serious damage to slabs and joints, especially if not cleaned right away, leading to both aesthetic and financial damages. Urine can cause corrosion, so having your slabs sealed can prevent this from happening. If you have pets who frequently use your paving or patio, it is good practice to wash it every few days to prevent long-term damage to the joints and slabs.
